This seminar focused on cultivating leadership skills during a Ph.D. or postdoctoral program. Tangible examples were provided on how to become involved with student clubs, academic groups, industry organizations, non-profit organizations, and networking groups to build leadership, management, presentation, communication, networking, and interpersonal skills.

How to Evaluate, Build and Highlight Transferable Skills Workshop

Lauren Celano provided insight on how to evaluate transferable skills and which skills are valued in various careers. Through this seminar, Lauren shared common non-scientific skills that scientists can apply towards their desired career. She also provided guidance on how to package scientific and non-scientific skills on resumes, cover letters, and during interviews.

It highlighted some of the various networking events, conferences, and meetings happening in the Boston area as well as other resources to be aware of to learn more about the life sciences area and even potentially connect with people to learn about specific career paths. "Welcome to Boston" also covered news sources and websites useful to gain information about specific research areas and/or industry trends related to different areas of the life sciences sector.
