English as a Second Language (ESL) for Researchers

Since 2006, the Office for Research Career Development (ORCD), with the support of the Executive Committee on Research (ECOR), has offered ESL for Researchers to the MGH research community twice a year in the Spring and Fall semesters. Many foreign-born research scientists may be hindered by limited verbal presentation skills necessary to present their work both informally at departmental colloquium and nationally at research conferences. The MGH encourages the exchange of research findings and provides support for individuals to achieve this goal by offering this course to researchers. The ORCD ESL course covers speaking and listening skills, pronunciation, vocabulary, and American culture.

The ORCD ESL courses are intended for members of the MGH research community. This includes faculty, postdoctoral fellows and graduate students. In some cases visiting scholars, research assistants and other members of the non-professional research staff may also be eligible. Spouses, friends, and significant others are not eligible to apply for these courses.

Please email if you have additional eligibility questions.

Applications for the Spring 2019 semester are now closed. For further information about applying for a future semester, please email
