Faculty Development Seminar: Communication Series

Mock Study Section for NIH Grant Reviews

During this session, MGH faculty with extensive NIH study section experience staged a mock review panel to show how grants are evaluated for funding. Three real grants were discussed, including funded and unfunded grants. Participants learned about membership of a typical review panel (study section), responsibilities of review panel members, what happens during the review meeting, what their grant’s priority score means, and how to communicate with NIH staff about their grant.

Partners Innovation Fund: Let’s Make a Deal

The team from the Partners Innovation Fund (PIF) presented an introduction to their venture fund, which is a $165M fund specifically focused on early stage investments in Partner's technologies. In addition, faculty who have collaborated with the PIF team had an opportunity to discuss their experiences.

Attendees heard panelists' success stories, learned how to prepare a successful application packet (cover letter, research proposal), learned how to best prepare for job interviews (presentations, meeting the faculty during interviews, selling your expertise) and received job negotiation advice. Attendees also had the opportunity to ask questions during a Q&A session.
