WHAT'S HAPPENING

1. Overview of Career Opportunities in the Life Science Sector on Oct 11 -
    Graduate Student Division Career Advancement Series

Are you interested in exploring your future career opportunities? This seminar will focus on career opportunities available to individuals with advanced degrees and provides an overview of the skills needed to excel in each type of role.

At this seminar you will learn about:
    •  Research and non-research career paths such as consulting, product development, etc.
    •  Numerous opportunities for you in non-profit and for-profit organizations
    •  Professional associations and groups that are active in the Boston area life sciences
       ecosystem
    •  Transferable skills, their importance and how to highlight them for specific roles

Are you interested in saving on your monthly T-Pass?

The MGH Graduate Student Division (GSD) is offering savings on the Monthly LinkPass to support scholarly activities of PhD graduate students who are currently doing research at MGH. The T-Pass Savings is a lottery program for a limited number of non-employee PhD students at MGH.

2. CALL FOR APPLICATIONS! GSD Travel Awards (Nov 2018-Apr 2019) due Oct 1-
    Sponsored by the MGH Graduate Student Division

Recognizing that one of the obstacles to career advancement is the challenge of traveling while in graduate school and doing research, the MGH Graduate Student Division (GSD) within the CFD's Office for Research Career Development established the GSD Travel Awards to help you travel.

This award will support travel to an academic/society meeting related to your academic advancement possible. The award is open to PhD graduate students who are currently doing research at MGH and who have plans to attend a professional meeting between November 2018 and April 2019. Funding is intended to help defray registration, transportation and accommodation costs for the students while traveling only. Winners will present at a MGH student seminar.

3. 2018 Warren Alpert Foundation Prize Symposium on Oct 4 -
    Harvard Medical School

Each year Harvard Medical School and the Warren Alpert Foundation Prize recognize the world's most foremost scientists, physicians, and researchers. This year's symposium will feature Francis Collins, MD, PhD, Director of the National Institutes of Health, and others.
