WHAT'S HAPPENING

1. The Flagship VentureLabs Internship Program on Mar 11-
    Informational session for graduate students and postdocs

The Flagship VentureLabs Fellows Program is a short-term (12 weeks), full-time, paid internship for graduate students and postdocs interested in building scientific entrepreneur skills. The key benefits of the internship include:

    •  Learn to generate and refine venture hypotheses
    •  Contribute to game-changing ideas and innovations
    •  Build relationships and expand your network
    •  Exhibit and develop your creativity, adaptability, and ability to innovate
    •  Gain exposure to leaders in science and business
    •  Work directly with highly experienced Flagship Venture labs members

2. Acing your Interview on March 19-
    GSD Educational Seminar: Career Advancement Series

A career advancement two-hour seminar for MGH graduate students tailored for academic and non-academic interviews.

This educational seminar will provide tips and advise on:

Facilitator: Lauren Celano, MBA, Founder and CEO, Propel Careers

    •  how to perform research on the company and interviewers
    •  how to prepare potential interview questions and responses
    •  how to create your own “elevator speech”
    •  how to handle behavioral focused interview questions

1. Do You Need Help Identifying Funding Opportunities?-

The GSD is sponsoring consultation meetings for you to meet with Amy Robb, Assistant Director for Prospect Research and Funding Opportunities, Corporate & Foundation Relations, MGH Development Office, to set up personalized funding searches. Amy can meet with individuals or small groups who share funding goals.

This consultation will help you:

    •  Set up search parameters designed to identify funding sources for your research
        program.
    •  Receive a weekly report of updated search results.
    •  Gain a greater understanding of how to use COS Pivot to conduct additional searches.

3. The Science of Communication on March 16-
    Co-sponsored by the Harvard Postdoc Office Consortium consisting of HMS, HSPH, BWH, BCH, DFCI,
    BIDMC, Harvard FAS, Joslin, and MGH Postdoc Association along with Harvard OCS and the HILS
    Program.

A workshop for science-trained graduate students, post-graduates and practicing research scientists. The “myths” about effective communication often leave young scientists uncertain about how to advance their careers and advocate for their abilities and their projects. In this workshop, Dr. Fiske examines some of the science of persuasion, and the underlying neuroscience that explains why people receive some forms of communication well and react negatively to other forms and styles.
