The Center for Faculty Development (CFD) was established to facilitate career development of ALL MGH faculty. This umbrella organization addresses all aspects of faculty development, as well as, specializing on the clinical faculty through the Office for Clinical Careers (OCC), the research communities through the Office for Research Career Development (ORCD) and the women faculty through the Office for Women's Careers (OWC).

    Faculty Development Seminar: Career Advancement Series

An opportunity for new faculty who joined MGH from October 2016 to present to hear from senior faculty leaders and familiarize yourself with key information to enhance your MGH experience.

A three-hour session designed to provide an overview of the MGH environment and faculty resources focusing on:
    •  MGH and MGPO Overview
    •  Research Environment (e.g. Research Management, Executive Committee on Research,
        & Research Council)

    •  Teaching and Education Environment Overview
    •  Introduction to HMS and the promotion process
    •  Center for Faculty Development Overview and more!

    Faculty Development Seminar: Management Series
    Sponsored by the Office for Research Career Development

This panel discussion is designed for early career faculty who are new to the process of hiring and leading laboratory staff. Topics covered will help you in building the best lab team for your new research program, including:
    •  Deciding who to hire first: postdoc or research assistant
    •  Interviewing and hiring: advice from HR
    •  Motivating your team and setting expectations
    •  Best practices and lessons learned from MGH faculty PIs

2. Negotiation Essentials on Sep 21-
    Faculty Development Seminar: Career Advancement Series

This interactive workshop will focus on the structure of negotiation by reviewing a systematic approach on preparing to negotiate. A case study example will be used to guide the participants through this process. This 2-hour session will help you understand the barriers and strategies to successful negotiations.

The annual lecture features a leader in academic medicine, sharing advice on career success and advancement.

This year's speaker is Redonda Miller, MD, MBA, President, The Johns Hopkins Hospital.
